Six Flags to develop water park in China
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has announced plans for a water park next to its first theme park in China.
The world’s largest regional theme park company has teamed up with Riverside Investment Group Co. Ltd., an award-winning tourism and real estate developer, for Hurricane Harbor Water Park in Haiyan China, in the province of Zhejiang.
Construction is already under way for Six Flags Zhejiang, the anchor of a 30 billion yuan (USD $4.6 billion) resort development located on the coast of Hangzhou Bay.
The theme and water parks are expected to open in 2019. Additionally, Six Flags and Riverside has announced Mark Kane as the new general manager and park president of Six Flags Zhejiang. Kane, who previously served as park president for Six Flags Great Adventure and Six Flags New England, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the China property.
John Odum, president, Six Flags International Development Company, said: “Mark is a proven leader and a trailblazer. His expansive knowledge of the theme park industry and experience overseeing a massive development project from start to finish is a major plus.
“Mark’s background, coupled with Riverside Investment Group’s reputation as a premier real estate and tourism developer, will solidify Six Flags Zhejiang and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor as best-in-class global entertainment destinations.”
Tang Jun, Riverside CEO, said: “The Six Flags brand is synonymous with innovation and record-breaking thrills for all ages. We are delighted to welcome Mr. Kane to China as we break ground on this world-class park and prepare to delight our guests with experiences and memories that only Six Flags can create.”
Six Flags Zhejiang will feature some of the most incredible roller coasters, rides and attractions in the world. The park will also feature elaborately-themed sections celebrating time-honoured Chinese traditions, live shows and seasonal events along with a wide variety of culinary offerings and retail locations.
